Rest Your Brain to Boost Productivity

stress2

No matter what method you try, or what advice you take, if your brain is worn out, you’re screwed.

Many believe that stress is good – you have to get that adrenaline flowing to get anything done. But stress keeps your brain on red alert, firing neurons like pistons on the Space Shuttle and releasing all kinds of stress-related hormones and making you a really tired person. When your mind is tired, you’re not functioning at full capacity, and you’re sure to get behind. It’s ironic really, the harder you try to be productive when your brain’s worn out, the worse it gets.

Why Stress Management Doesn’t Work

Let’s be honest – stress is fear. If you reflect upon the things you’re stressing about, you’ll quickly understand that there are all kinds of things flying around that are scaring you. “What if so-and-so outperforms me?” “What if I don’t meet my deadline?” “Who am I if I can’t rise above my peers?” We like to call this “stress” because it feels…

  1. Reminds me of how Amy Carmichael would take a passage and state it’s opposite: The Lord isn’t my shepherd, I am in want. I am unable to lie down in green pastures or be led beside still waters. My soul is stressed…you get the idea.

          1. Lolol. I take up projects like repainting my house, making my own laundry soap, and ripping out carpet. Only problem is I can’t always finish things like the flooring which irritates my husband but being inside all day somewhat makes you crazy. I mean, do you know what lives under carpet and apparently inside my lungs? I tried to submit some writings to other blogs too but I get ignored more than I get published.

          2. Yeah, not sure I’ve recovered. I was a pilot at the time and started to take risks and shortcuts that weren’t good. I ultimately decided to go to seminary and live for awhile in ministry.

          3. Are you no longer in ministry? I feel like some days I’m good and other days, I think a lot about it and then realize I’m still dealing. I lost my mom suddenly and my dad died when I was 11 so I feel like they are all cumulative sorrows and not sure where one ends and the other begins.

Not formally, but I still mentor some folks and serve at church wherever they want me. Sorry to hear about your parents – you’ve really been through alot.

          5. Ok, I moved to the free site. Can you let me know if it shows up on your virus program? Thanks! Hopefully when I publish this comment, my profile goes directly to the new blog.

          1. You know I had another guy say that and I called godaddy and they said nothing was wrong. That pisses me off. What’s your virus scanner?

          2. I had one guy..his tech guys flagged it at work so they ran tests and came back and said it was fine but their scanner, Palo Alto I think it was called, picked it up as a threat. So my husband is in IT so I asked him to look at it and he scanned it and nothing came up. Godaddy scanned it too and then tried to sell me some crap so I could scan it better which I didn’t do. It comes up for me but I don’t like that other people are getting notifications that it’s a threat. Maybe it’s the domain name. Lol
